Charlotte's family has been in the political spotlight her whole life, and when she's younger the president of the USA comes to have a dinner. Along with the President is his son Matt, who Charlotte is fascinated by. He becomes her first crush one that she never got over. She hopes when he grows up and run for office like his father, although that is the complete opposite of what he actually wants to do.
Matt has tried to stay out of the spotlight his entire life, especially after tragedy struck his family. But tired of what America has become he wants to run for President in order to bring about change.
Charlotte also never really wanted to get informed with politics instead choosing to further women's rights and such. But the dinner with the president effected her life in such that Charlotte had promised Matt that if he ever ran for President she would be there to help. A little far fetched that this promise would actually be kept because she was about eleven, but that's what happened. Matt contacted her the moment he publicly announced his
Everyone is all grown up now and when Charlotte and him meet sparks fly. Stuff happens and Charlotte ends up working for him as the campaign/scheduling manager. More sparks fly and they end up sleeping together, although it as to be hush hush because he can't afford any bad publicity.
The book goes between present, and past filling in the backstory of how each main character got to where they are and their budding relationship. I found that this worked nicely to give depth to everyone.
The only problem I had with this book was that it was a bit slow and not much happened. There was a lot of build up, but nothing came of it. It amounted to nothing. I think I'll pick up the next book to see what happens, but there is also a lot of my TBR pile so it probably won't be for a while.
