This is one of the darkest UF series I've ever read. The most of the vamps are evil. They feed not only on blood, but on emotions (fear, pain and pleasure, there is even talk of joy). Even the vamps who feed off pleasure and joy are evil as they for things on the humans and still kill them without thought. Just like with anything though, not all the vamps are evil. Their is one that fed on pain, but while magic still worked, he spent his time in the ER of a hospital, so he could feed on pain without causing it.

There are werewolves who need meat to survive, but with magic failing they have a very limited supply of beef and pork, so they've moved to humans and even vampires. They have found that if they are careful, they can feed from the vamps without killing them and that they will continuously regenerate the meat that they need.

Our main character, Quinn, is a sorceress who the vamps are depending on to renew the magic that is destroying Vamp City. Problem is, she doesn't know how to renew the magic she has spent her entire life hiding.

I really enjoy the dark aspects about this story. I wish this story had more of the action and suspense that book one had. This one did have more on the relationship between Arturo and Quinn. The stories for both Zack and Lily are still up in the air. It will be very interesting to see where they go. I can't wait for book three.

The second book in the Vamp City series by Pamela Palmer did not disappoint. We pick up about a month after Quinn and her brother get out of Vamp City, thanks to the dark and untrustworthy - yet sexy as hell - Arturo. A series of events bring both Quinn and Zack back to Vamp City, and they are forced to work with, and trust Arturo who is determined to earn Quinn's trust.

Arturo regrets several of the choices he made in their earlier interactions and seeing him try to make things right, and peeking into his inner thoughts was a lot of fun for me. Even with all the underhanded things he did in [b:A Blood Seduction|12907355|A Blood Seduction (Vamp City, #1)|Pamela Palmer|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1325986333s/12907355.jpg|18061985], I wanted to love him and trust him implicitly. He is a fabulous hero, and the way Palmer writes him, with his facial expressions, and smoldering looks, makes me want to put my life on the line just to be with him.

Quinn, understandably, has some issues working with Arturo. But I think she started trusting him a bit too soon, although that may be because he really is the only person/vampire she knows in V.C. and he says he is going to help her and protect her, and to get her mission accomplished she has to rely on others. But in her defense, she doesn't just fall back into bed with him. In her situation I probably would have! He is a pretty sexy beast. She is also a lot more confident, which makes sense having gone through what she has. Overall, this is a great follow-up to a great book, and I very much look forward to future installments in the Vamp City series from Ms. Palmer.
