Tercera entrega de las cuatro que hay publicadas de la saga Murderbot. Entretenidísima. Y, como en toda buena saga, a medida que vamos conociendo al protagonista no sólo se suceden nuevas aventuras, sino que también aprendemos más detalles sobre el mundo creado por la autora y el protagonista que nos cuenta la historia. En este caso Murderbot se ve involucrado en una misión que explora un planeta cuya terraformación falló. Pero al llegar a él, por supuesto, se encuentran con un montón de sorpresas cada vez más desagradables.
Está fantásticamente contado y las descripciones técnicas (o técnicohumorísticas) son estupendas (hay un momento en el que el prota tiene que seguir simultáneamente siete feeds de cámara más dos o tres robots y dice que por el canal audio podrían estar hablando de venderlo por piezas pero que no puede dedicarle al audio ni medio ciclo de procesador).
Muy, muy entretenido.

Tras la relectura preparando la quinta entrega que ha salido en 2020, descubro que muchos detalles de humor bordean lo que en teatro sería la sobreactuación y que a mí me siguen pareciendo divertidísimos. El estilo de la autora en esta serie es mi estilo favorito.

That's what I'm talking about! Oh this was spectacular! Loved Murderbot and Miki's interactions, and is it just me looking too deep into this, or is Murderbot's POV shifting to a more human type of thought process?

I mean it felt more emotional in this book, but I can't tell if I'm just that invested in the character and seeing that, or if it's actually happening.

Either way, I'm loving that character development.

I didn't have plans to start this today, but I found that like Murderbot with Sanctuary Moon I needed a bit of comfort media.
This is such a good series. Not a whole lot happens in this one as compared to the previous two, but we get to see Murderbot's continued journey into learning what it means to be free-thinking, to have thoughts and feelings of its own, and the unexpected connections it keeps making. Also, Mickey is a precious cinnamon bun.

Book 1, Part 3. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think Murderbot actually enjoyed its job (when it’s not being ordered around by stupid humans). Seems the author subscribes to the “short-lived civilization” solution to the Fermi paradox. A shame. I’d love to see Murderbot meet aliens.

The series offers an overall arc surrounding an incident with GrayCris Corporation the makers of our Murderbot. Our SecUnit is offline and rogue. With each book we meet a new bot and I love the different personalities that are emerging. Murderbot is posing as a security consultant and exploring an abandoned facility when he stumbles across humans with their own security team and a bot named Miki.

This was intense and fascinating as we spent a lot of time in Murderbot's head. His interactions with Miki and struggles in dealing with the humans and the other security team made for an addictive listen. In fact, I listened to this in a single sitting. Thank goodness for wireless headphones! Twists, turns and heart-pounding action scenes with deadly bots made for some white-knuckle moments. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next audiobook.

Kevin R. Free does a stellar job of giving voice to our SecUnit. He captures his hesitation, subtle wit and uncertainty. His tone and pacing enhance an already engaging and well-written tale. If you have a choice, I recommend listening.

Rogue Protocol is perfect for fans of science fiction, but a fantastic crossover for fans of suspense, humor and those who like to ponder the big questions about humanity and technology. Heck, it's a fun series with an engaging protagonist who will steal your heart. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

I didn't like this installment as much as the previous two, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how the quartet wraps up, given how this one ended.

Val says Murderbot reminds her of me. Idk if it's a compliment, but I'm going to go ahead and take it as one. Which, is actually a pretty Murderbot-y thing to do come to think of it... Anyway, Murderbot is, as always, highly amusing and entertaining. And just like the second installment, I worried that I would not be able to grow to like new characters in such a short page span. And once again, I was wrong.

First, Murderbot is developing feelings. Like stronger feelings, because they totally already had them, but you know. Basically, Murderbot is now recognizing their feelings, is more accurate.

"They were all annoying and deeply inadequate humans, but I didn't want to kill them. Okay, maybe a little."

And of course, it is full of action. It is also full of feels, as you realize how much people (and bots) can care for each other. I am just so, so happy that there is going to be a full-length Murderbot novel because if the next installment was the last? I'd need to go drown my sorrows in endless episodes of Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon.

Bottom Line: Need. Fourth Murderbot. Immediately.
