Written by Danny Gray, the founder of War Paint, this manual will show men of all ages how to care for their skin and apply subtle makeup to enhance and improve their looks, giving them confidence and self-esteem.
Makeup for men is nothing new. In ancient Egypt, kings and pharaohs blackened their eyes with kohl to ward off evil spirits, and Native American tribes used body paint to prepare themselves psychologically for war. Up until the 1600s it was common for Englishmen to powder their faces as well as adding a touch of rouge to their cheeks and lips.
Today, the male skincare industry is growing rapidly and last year was worth an estimated £29 million in the UK alone.
Since launching War Paint just ten months ago, Danny’s mission has been to eliminate the stigma surrounding men wearing makeup and to help men feel more comfortable and confident in their appearance.
After years of enduring verbal and physical abuse while at school, Danny was eventually diagnosed with BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder) aged 14. It was then that he discovered applying makeup gave him a much needed confidence boost, but he felt awkward and embarrassed when approaching any makeup counter. So the seed, to create a makeup brand designed specifically for and targeted at men, was sown.
Writing a Haynes manual for men and makeup is a perfect collaboration.
