Lauren and Matthew are two work-a-holics who don't do relationships. For some reason, when Lauren literally falls into Matthew's arms, there are sparks, which neither of them could deny. They both decide to take a stab at something fun with no strings attached. However, they got more than they bargained for. This was a great, fairly light romance, filled with lots of comedic moments and sex. Lots and lots of sex. I greatly enjoyed getting to know the characters in this book. Matthew was irresistible to me. He was putting a lot in this "thing" between him and Lauren, but she was hesitant to reciprocate. Several times, he went all in and she rebuffed him. Those were the times I hated Lauren. She had so many good qualities, but she just annoyed me when it came to her love life, or rather, self-deprived love life. I could often forgive Lauren, because she could also be tender and sweet and came through when needed. Matthew's family members were all introduced to us in this book, and they are quite the colorful group. Each are unique in their own way and I look forward to reading their stories. In a nutshell: fun, sexy romance with a great supporting cast of characters.
This book had everything I love in a contemporary romance.
The Hero was a hard working, family oriented, healthy, fit and sexy man who thought he didn't need a relationship. He had beasts to fill his needs. I can't say I was that fond of his term "beasts" for athletic chicks he hooked up with when he finished a marathon or triathlon and was on an adrenaline high. Then he saw her, talked to her and even though she wasn't his usual type he really, really liked her. She made thing hard for him, literally. Every time he saw her he wanted to rip her clothes off. She also made thing hard for him emotionally because she was too busy to have a relationship and told him that frequently.
Lots of back and forth between the couple, with Matthew being a lot more invested in their relationship than Lauren. It takes a long time for Lauren to realise that she is serious about Matthew and it did frustrate me quit a lot. She talked herself into thinking that her work goals were more important than her happiness and the relationship developing.
Really, really good sexy bits. After their first encounter I knew this author was heading towards my - Favourite Contemporary Author when I need a pick-me-up, list.
Kate Canterbary, take a bow, nice work and keep them coming.
