Finally, Protector is described as a young adult novel. It is, but in name only. The main character, Faith, is eighteen but her speech patterns and observations read like a much older woman. When she sees Prince Davio for the first time she describes him as a specimen of rugged beauty with a seductive aura. The characters feel as if they are adults not teens. There is a lot of potential in Protector once the story starts moving, like the fact that these people mate for life or the ongoing war between the two alien nations. However the threads are never pulled together and as a result the book just didn’t hold my attention.
