Quirky Cat
M.L. Tishner's debut novel, The God Queen, is not one I'm going to be forgetting anytime soon. It's a science fiction novel like no other. And let us not forget that vibrant cover! I honestly think that the combination of pink and purple hues made me stop and read the description for this book in the first place. I'm not ashamed to admit that.
Rei Ettowa may be trapped in a tiny town on Earth, but she dreams of something more. She dreams of finding her way to the stars and hunting down the knight who brutally took her brother away from her.
Then Rei learns that she is more than she had ever dared to dream, as she is the reincarnated form of The God Queen. While this brings with it immense power, it also brings great danger. It is up to Rei to find that balance and save the day.
“She wanted to cleanse the world in fire.”
The God Queen is arguably one of the more unique science fiction novels I've read, even in recent times. For one thing, my brain keeps thinking it is a fantasy (I blame the cover there), and yet I'm totally okay with that.
What really made me want to read this book was how strong Rei sounded. That and the fact that she's apparently The God Queen. It made her sound so strong and powerful, and I simply had to know more. Let me tell you; I was not disappointed. Rei is everything that I had hoped for, and perhaps more.
“Desperate people believe the lie because they want it to be true, and it distracts them from their own problems.”
Also, it was SO hard limiting myself to only a couple of pull quotes for my review. There are so many good quotes in The God Queen, and I feel like that fact alone should speak volumes about this beauty.
I was absolutely enchanted with this story and the hundreds of details that flowed across the pages. Before I knew it, the book was over, and I was left running to the computer for news on the sequel (good news on that front!).
