This text extends the study of physics away from a content-based study towards a study of skills and processes. It is suitable for all post-16 courses (vocational and academic) - for example, A- and AS-Level physics, Scottish Higher physics, Sixth-Year studies, SCOTVEC physics and BTEC national physics. The book contains six sections of practical work, focusing on mechanics, materials, fields, waves, electricity and electrics and inside the atom. There are 101 exercises of four types - 10 topic investigations introducing a key topic; 16 standard experiments needed for all courses; 49 investigations designed to develop knowledge and understanding; and 26 long-term projects. Certain core skills (problem-solving, numeracy, communication, IT and teamwork) as recommended by SEAC, are integrated throughout the text.
