This follow-on books takes Programming Interviews Exposed and thoroughly updates it. Most substantially, the book's overriding message will be getting a job in today's tough job market . Many of the core puzzle type problems and programming paradigms are still fairly standard. However, the roughly 1/3 of the sample problems that focus on technology will be thoroughly re-examined for timeliness in the current marketplace. Additionally, new technologies, such as wireless LAN and security will be added to make the book an even stronger buy for unemployed software developers seeking information about today's new technologies. However, the core emphasis will remain on teaching the techniques of software development interviewing, and not on being a comprehensive dictionary for every buzzword. The entire book will receive a detailed quality audit, correcting errors, eliminating or updating any material that has become dated and adding new material and questions where appropriate. New paradigm and puzzle questions including some new solutions and bug fixes will be added. The following are hallmarks of the first book, Programming Interviews Exposed, which will still resonate throughout this follow-on: aims to help the job applicant prepare to differentiate him/herself successfully from the plethora of other candidates by giving clues and practice as to the kinds of questions you're going to be asked: programming problems, logic puzzles, measuring and spatial reasoning problems, and knowledge-based problemsaimed at interviewees, the book is just as useful for interviewers--if only to ensure they're not using cliched questionsconsists of short, concise and sensible advice on personal presentation and preparation followed by long discussions of small, non-obvious, programming problemspresents the kind of question for which you might be asked to code an answer at interview--using C for preference--followed by obvious and then less obvious solutions with background discussion on the purpose of the question, programming traps to avoid and areas worth mentioning to your interviewer (but not coding for).
