Romance Schmomance

Jay isn’t a new to me author, I fell in love with her work on the Marked Men series. And I’m not sure why, but I jumped off the bandwagon for a while.
Anyways back to the review, right from the very beginning, you can pick up on the solemn tone between Brynn and Lane. And it’s absolutely heartbreaking. I didn’t even fully know what was going on between these two but my heart was just breaking for them. It’s so very clear that there’s just so much history between Brynn and Lane. With so much time between them and tiptoeing around each other instead of sorting their stuff out, it’s a recipe for a painful yet healing journey.
It’s evident that these two absolutely love each other, it’s just so deep between them, how can there be anyone else for them? And I must say, things that happen during the teenage years shouldn’t have such a deep effect on someone especially when it comes to love. As a teenager, you’re still figuring things out and you make dumb decisions. Those two weren’t ready for certain things at that age, so Brynn’s denial of Lane was understanding, yet he should have seen past that and moved on. Now that they’re older, it’s great to see them come together to work it all out.
One thing that threw for a loop was the additional story within their story. I found that it took away from Brynn and Lane, which ended up bringing more characters into the center of things. But I definitely got how Jay wanted to bring in new characters, where it seems like it’ll be potential for more books with these new additions.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. I love that despite the time and hurt, they were able to work their issues out. Honesty will do a lot of things for you!
