After All is the final book in the Romancing Manhattan series by Kristen Proby. In this edition the reader gets the story of Carter, powerful lawyer, single dad, and widower, and Nora, his assistant!
Nora has been Carter's assistant for 10 years. Its always been professional; Nora was there for him when his wife died 5 years before. But, there is a shift in their relationship. Carter discovers he is attracted to Nora and wants to explore it. However, the man is an idiot. He has to understand women better than this (I mean, he was married before so at some point he used to have game). He says some seriously dumb things! Nora is pretty forgiving of most of his missteps. I am glad she stood her ground at least a few times at the end of the story. He needed to learn that his actions and reactions must change!
Gabby is Carter's 12 year old daughter. She has been going through a LOT and has been acting out. As a reader, your heart goes out to her: she is missing her mom, she is about to be a teenager and all that comes with it, and she is conflicted about her dad's new relationship.
After All has lots going on throughout the story-trapped together for a night in a snow storm, Gabby's mood swings, bitchy coworkers-but the central story is all about Carter and Nora. This is romance in its purest form! Readers who enjoy a straightforward romance will love After All (and the rest of the series)!
- POV: dual 1st
- Tears: yes (there were some happy and sad tears)
- Trope: single dad, widower, boss/employee
- Triggers: Carter's wife died of breast cancer 5 years ago; there is a cancer scare in the story as well
- Series/Standalone: stand alone
- Cliffhanger: no
- HEA: yes with epilogue
single dad romances like Joke's on You by Lani Lynn Vale, Eagle by Janie Crouch, Tumble by Adriana Locke...then you will probably like After All!
