Я люблю YA романы с элементами NA. Подростки, темная сексуальная атмосфера, драма – это все мое. К сожалению, это не работает, если за дело берется Эбби Глайнс.

«Until Friday Night» была издана в недалеком 2015 году, но мне с трудом верится, что в наше время авторы все еще пишут настолько старомодные романы, собирающие все известные мне клише NA. Знаете, некоторые клише бывают хороши и действительно выглядят круто, если за дело берется автор, знающий свое дело. Посмотрите на Тилли Коул. Не сказать бы, что «Мечта для нас» оригинальна, но благодаря подаче автора, книга вышла чертовки хорошей. Эбби Глайнс же так не может. Она словно царь Мидас только наоборот.

Сюжет, как всегда бывает у Эбби, не блещет оригинальностью и повторяет любой другой её ранее изданный роман. Плохой мальчик. Хорошая девочка. Драма и хэппи энд.

Звучит... нормально, правда? Классика романов. Есть десятки книг с такими же составляющими, которые я обожаю. Так что же не так конкретно с «Until Friday Night»?

Окееееееееей. Пристегните свои ремни.

Наш городок был полон таких же девушек, еще с начальной школы. Они были скучны, поверхностны и я переспал со всеми мало-мальски симпатичными из них. Никто не смог отвлечь меня. Все они чертовски раздражали.

Очаровательно.

В правом углу ринга у нас Мэгги, девушка с огромной трагедией в прошлом. Чтобы справиться с болью и отгородиться от мира, девушка решает перестать разговаривать.
На другой стороне у нас Уэст. Наглый, самоуверенный бабник, который ни во что не ставит девушек и терпеть не может ответственности. Но, конечно же, у него тоже есть свои проблемы, своя боль и трагедия, просто он хорошо это скрывает. Очень хорошо. Слишком хорошо. Итак, двое встречаются. БУУУУУУУУУУУУУУМ. Мгновенная любовь/похоть/желание/влечение (нужное подчеркнуть).

Едем дальше. В ходе событий Мэгги сталкивается с несколькими персонажами женского пола. И все они редкостные с*уки. Лишь Мэгги позволено было быть сияющим ангелом с нимбом на голове. Другие девушки просто настолько мерзотны, что мне было прямо таки грустно. Эбби, неужели вы правда верите, что в школах (пусть и американских) все вот так вот? Я понимаю желание оттенить главную героиню, но делать это таким низким способом – ничтожно. Поясняю. Все (помимо Мэгги) девушки в романе глупы, озабочены и обладают сквернейшим характером. Все хотят героя. Всех их герой имеет. Но ни одной из них не отдает свое сердце. Поэтому все они ненавидят Мэгги. Само собой. Парни не лучше. Они пусты и все, о чем они думаю, так это как бы и кого поиметь.

Первая встреча героев? Он насильно целует ее, чтобы отпугнуть от себя. Это не круто чувак. Спустя какое-то время, когда они стали друзьями (ха-ха) он целует ее вновь, чтобы стереть из ее памяти тот ужасный поцелуй. ЭТО НЕ КРУТО. И особенно смешно после такого читать мысли героя «Наша дружба в подвешенном состоянии». Еще бы. Я вот не целую в засос своих друзей. Это чертовски странно.

Спустя два дня после смерти отца Уэста герои занимаются любовью прямо в его машине.

Мы не занимались любовью потому, что, мне нужен был комфорт. Я любил тебя потому, что я хотел быть к тебе так близко, насколько это возможно. Потому, что, хоть я и потерял своего отца, я приобрел тебя.

Что простите?

Но самое худшее? Я не очень люблю выражение «токсичные отношения», но тут просто невозможно подобрать другое описание. Уэст – контролирующий, ревнивый и чертовски пугающий. Он хочет, чтобы она постоянно была рядом, чтобы она разговаривала только с ним и ни с кем другим. Почему? Она его, только его. Она дарит ему свет, покой, он не хочет этим делиться с другими. Сцена, где он в пал в истерику лишь увидев, как девушка разговаривает с другим парнем – просто нечто.

Она была моей. Она разговаривала только со мной. Я не хотел её делить ни с кем.

WTF, чувак? Что с тобой не так?

Хуже всего? Героиня. Мало того, что почти всю книгу она воспринимает это как нечто милое и нормальное, и просто следует всюду за героем, так под конец она на пустом месте на нее снисходит озарение что это ненормально. Более того, наша милашка винит во всем себя. Мол, она приучила его к себе, она сделала его зависимым и бла-бла-бла. Конечно же, все это быстро уходит на второй план, потому что наш герой извиняется и произносит три волшебных слова. За эти три волшебных слова можно простить все что угодно, само собой, ведь они оправдание всему на свете.

Знаете, как это выглядит со стороны?

– Я мудак, который ни во что не ставит женщин и легко впадающий в гнев. Я буду всю жизнь контролировать тебя и избивать любого, кто посмеет просто взглянуть на тебя. Но я люблю тебя, оки-доки?
– О! Ну, ведь ТЫ ЛЮБИШЬ МЕНЯ, да и я сама во всем виновата, так что, конечно все в порядке!

Самое забавное во всем этом? Все книги госпожи Глайнс с сюжетами точь-в-точь. Всё что она меняет – локации и имена героев. Вы можете прочитать всего одну ее книгу, но будете знать ролевую модель всех ее дешевых работ. Я же ставлю для себя крест на авторе и зарекаюсь браться за какие-либо ее другие работы.

DNF at 60 pages. I really wanted to love this book, but I couldn’t even get a quarter of the way through. Early on there were so many problems I had with it and I could already tell how it was going to end, I just couldn’t bring myself to keep reading. Disappointed this didn’t live up to my expectations.

I thought I marked this as finished. I don't exactly remember when I finished it though. Overall an ok book. Wasn't a fan of how possessive West was. Typical cave-man like behavior. But at least Maggie called him out on it and wasn't ok with it, at least for a little while. Then everything seemed fine.

It was a little messed up for West only to use Maggie for his own needs. But hey, the insta-love took about a month to happen! So that's pretty good. I'm glad it took them a more reasonable time to develop feelings for each other.

This was a pretty sad book, lots of sad things happen in it, which are described in the blurb. So I guess it's not a spoiler.

I liked Maggie better then Blaire, who is apart of the Rosemary Beach series. Maggie had a pretty solid backbone, she didn't really let West push her around. I'm not 100% sure he saw the error of his ways with how over the top possessive he was, but that's typical of most NA/Abbi Glines books.

Another typical thing of NA/Glines books was how EVERY male character thought Maggie was THE MOST beautiful girl they had ever seen and wanted to get with her. And the girls, or at least, in this case, an ex of West/popular girl hated Maggie. They always see the new girl as a threat, which is so tiring. Why does it always have to be this way in NA/YA books? Give me something different!

I'll give the next book in the series a shot as I'm liking Glines YA stuff a lot better than the NA stuff. Especially the Rosemary Beach series which got disgustingly absurd after the Blaire/Rush series.

I like football stories, I like love stories, I like Abbi Glines stories. So, I guess I went into this with a good attitude. This story of two people who are dealing with such devastating losses really tugged at my heartstrings. I loved how Maggie was able to push past her own demons to help West heal. She was able to break down his walls, as he was able to break down her's. There were so many special relationships in this book - West and Maggie, the Guys, Maggie and her aunt, uncle and cousin, West and his parents. I eat that stuff up. I believe this is a solid start to the new series and am looking forward to getting to know the guys better.

Abbi Glines writes the kinds of books that drive me crazy. Her love interests start off as complete pricks but if you can get past their punk ass attitudes and shitty behavior in the beginning, they really turn their shit around. That was the case with West Ashby.

Maggie Carleton doesn’t talk. She hasn’t said a word in years, communicating through pen and paper. She hasn’t talked since her father was put away for killing her mother. A murder she witnessed. As you can guess, that whole situation has traumatized her and she survives by not speaking. She doesn’t want to talk about that night, she just wants to move on and she doesn’t want to become a burden to anyone so she keeps to herself. When she moves in with her Uncle and his family, she knows that her cousin (who is the same age as her) isn’t going to like having her tag along everywhere he goes. He’s a total dickhead to her when she first comes around and Brady (that’s his name) really got on my nerves throughout a whole lot of this book. He warns his friends off of his cousin but mostly because she’s “not right in the head” as he tells them. There were so many freaking times when I wanted to punch Brady’s lights out.

West wasn’t safe from my rage too. When we first meet him, he’s a complete asshole and his father having cancer and him being scared about all of that didn’t excuse his behavior for me. Oh hell no. I’m not even sure why I continued reading this book but more than anything, I was curious. I was curious to see when and how and why Maggie would start talking again and I wanted to see how far Logan would grow on me.

Abbi Glines did a great job of turning things around because I was invested from beginning to end…even when I was pissed to high heaven at West for being such a complete jerk. Brady too.

I liked that despite not talking, Maggie is portrayed as strong. She’s a survivor and her story was one that pulled at my heart strings. I loved the connection she formed with West and I loved seeing her stand up for herself when things between her and West weren’t to her liking. I loved seeing West grow from the asshole jerk in the beginning to the guy he was in the end because he ended up being a real one.

There’s a lot of growing in this book and I’m glad that I finished it because this book made me mad, it made me sad and it made me laugh. All things that I love while reading a book. This is a book that stayed with me after I finished the book and I’m crossing my fingers that we’ll get more from this group of characters. I’m looking forward to seeing the other boys stories, especially Brady.
