This series is a fun twist on Greek Mythology. It’s got a definite humorous thing going for it with lots of great characters. It’s also got a fun love story and adorable side characters. It’s definitely an enjoyable read.
Sophie is a funny character. She’s one of those people that I don’t think could handle silence something has to always be coming out of her mouth or going in her head. She makes me laugh. I love that even though she is insecure she likes to walk around and tell people she is awesome. When she gets knocked down or……...well you’ll just have to read for that. She says you know I’m not the girl you can take out and she fights back. She always fights back.
I love the friendship between Sophie, Hannah and Theo because it’s solid in the face of all. Plus at least nobody is trying to hide anything. Even though Hannah is just plain old mortal she knows about the rest of them. They also have an interesting mix of personalities. Then you add Festos’ and Kai into the mix and it’s a rag tag band of misfits working to save the world. One task at a time because nothing really comes easy. Hey you need to do this but then we are going to screw this and this up and so you have to fix those things first and then you can do this. I liked that the crew goes on an adventure together traveling all over the place and getting out of crazy situations. You also learn more about each of the characters in the process.
I cringe whenever Bethany is around. I was assuming we wouldn’t be able to avoid her because of what happened in book one but ugh. I really can’t stand that girl with the passion of a thousands suns. (I don’t know what that means really).
The chemistry between Sophie and Kai is hot hot hot. When the two of them are in the same scene i just swoon with excitement. I love the way they are in that kind of hate/love relationship but also can’t resist each other. Besides the Aphrodite intervention there are some parts that heat up like...the island. Ya one of my favorite parts. I love reading every scene they are in together because even when they aren’t getting along you love them.
I also love how Greek Mythology is infused in there but sometimes the myths are changed a bit. Like with Hephaestus who I was like say what when they talked about his love interest but then they explain what happened and why it’s not just like the myth we know. I thought that was very cool. I like how the different myths of each of the gods are portrayed. it’s even more interesting to me how in this version Hades is not the hot one his son is. I’ve gotten used to the dark misunderstood Hades in most retellings lately that it is funny to see him a different light. He’s not a major player, Zeus and him are more in the far off sense even though they are around in the beginning of the book.
Wow the ending was twisty, crazy and crushing. I’m still hungover from it. I need the next book badly.
What a ride! My Date from Hell is action packed, unpredictable and, oh so funny!
I missed Sophie and her snarkyness (yes, I know it’s not a word!). Our heroine is trying to stay alive, recover her Persephone memories, save her friends, the rest of humanity, all while trying to have a date with Kai. Sophie is a mix of the old and the new, trying to come together to form a special person that’s full of power and that, above all, tries to do the right thing. She’s fiercely loyal and in My Date from Hell, that loyalty is tested time and time again.
We have Kai back, in all his tattooed glory and he’s going all out to make Sophie fall in love with him. He can be sweet when he wants to. We have to remember that he lost the love of his life in Persephone and it’s trying to reconcile the past with his present. This couple is so much fun together. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Theo and Hannah are trying to help Sophie and keep her safe. We meet new characters in this installment, some good and some not so good. I really liked Festos and Pierce, I think they add something to the story and they are definitely in Sophie’s team.
The Blooming Goddess series is so much fun to read. These characters and full of faults, but also full of life and uniqueness. The plot, as I said before, is full of action and also very fast paced. The writing is so funny, sarcastic, and also full of self- discovery and felling.
What an ending! It is quite the cliffhanger, surprising and unforeseen, all rolled into one. I fervently hope that Kai comes back to his senses and that something awful happens to Felicia and Bethany (after all, fair is fair and karma is a b*#%^). I don’t have to tell you that I’m looking forward to My Life from Hell, the conclusion of the trilogy, which will be published sometime next year.
Overall, My Date from Hell is a fast paced adventure, full of twists and turns and characters all and new. Funny and entertaining :)
