This clear introduction to the basic concepts of physics covers the key topics required by students in technical programs: mechanics, electricity and magnetism, light and optics, thermodynamics, and modern physics. The book assumes very little math background on the students' part - the necessary math is developed concurrently with the physical concepts. Emphasis is placed on problem-solving and developing a systematic approach to the solving of problems. The level of detail of explanations is considerably greater than is usual for tech physics books. This book is class-tested and has numerous pedagogical aids: chapter objectives, worked examples, important equations and terms, review questions and problem sets. Three systems of units are employed: SI, CGS absolute, and the English gravitational, the SI being stressed in later chapters.
