I am a fan of this series, and always look forward to the next coupling. I loved the banter and heat between Vaughn and Sydney, and especially loved how their relationship changed and grew. Vaughn was really the obstacle here. Sydney had been betrayed and cheated on, but she was still wanted to find her one and only. Vaughn had not been in a serious relationship for many years, and was not looking for one now. Unfortunately, his heart had other plans. It was quite adorable the way his mind would wander to Sydney, or how he no longer noticed attractive women. The way he would make excuses to see Sydney -- all signs pointed to Vaughn wanting more.
I really liked the family aspect in this book too. Vaughn and his family were the opposite of Sydney's family. They had so much love and affection, and Mom just won my heart for a multitude of reasons. Although Sydney did not have the same sort of family vibe, she and her sister shared a close relationship that was very sweet.
This book had all the hallmarks of previous FBI/US Attorney books. It was hot and steamy with humor and fun banter. I have seen some comments about the amount of action in this book. Yes, there was less (not that I minded), but I think it was a result of Sydney not being part of that world. We spent time in Vaughn's work life (the action) and Sydney's (a corporate job, not so much action, but interesting none the less).
Overall, another fine addition to this series.
