Huh I really liked this one. I missed reading J. L's stories. Simple but great descriptions and a good plot.

But the characters spoiled this for me. Namely, Sydney. The girl is not really bad, but towards the end, she really began to annoy me, what with all her insecurities that started to lose sense to me.

On the other hand, Andrea, the bestie who we don't see a lot of... She was the one with the personality.

Oh, and Kyler is hot :3

I liked Frigid, but not as much as I had hoped. I adored the friends to lovers romance, but the romantic suspense twist just did nothing for me. Sydney and Kyler have been friends since third grade. They're getting close to graduating from college, and now is the time where their true feelings for each other come out. Every year they go to Snowshoe for some skiing before Christmas, but a blizzard hits before the rest of their friends can arrive. Sydney and Kyler are now stuck together in a cabin without electricity, and someone is lurking around causing more trouble for them.

I'll start with what I loved about Frigid, which was the friends to lovers romance and whole being stranded scenario. These are two of my favorite romance tropes. Sydney has been in love with Kyler for years, but he's not the commitment type. He has a different girl practically every night. She thinks it's because Kyler just doesn't see her as a sexy female, but the truth of the matter is, he values their friendship too much and doesn't think he's good enough for her. I also love misunderstandings! Luckily, having only each other as company, the truth must come out, and that it does! There's plenty of sexual tension in the beginning, and then plenty of sexy times in the middle! I did not want that blizzard to end! They needed to stay in that cabin forever! But it was not meant to be, especially when someone is shooting out windows and cutting the power.

Frigid's suspense plot was just boring. There was nothing suspenseful about it at all. I knew who the culprit was from the moment the window exploded. We're not introduced to too many characters, since only a few people are there due to the snow, so it's not hard to figure out. Their motive also didn't make much sense, and yet, it causes a huge fight between our lovebirds! I don't understand how Sydney could blame the situation on Kyler. Sure, the shooter's motive involved him, but Kyler in no way made this person do what they did. Also, him fully disclosing everything (which wasn't even her business to start with) to her wouldn't have changed anything. I hate this type of forced fight! It would have been much better to have all of the "scary" stuff happen, and just leave it at that. No need to stretch the blame to start a fight.

Just one more nitpicky thing that didn't really affect my rating, but did bother me. There are several typos throughout Frigid, and there are some inconsistencies. Specifically Kyler and Sydney are both wearing jeans at one point, and yet when they get naked, both of them remove their sweats. It's not like there are many pages between when the jeans are mentioned to when the sweats are taken off either. It's just a couple of paragraphs! No way they could have changed so fast! Or maybe they were wearing jeans and sweats (it was freezing), but then only took of the sweats and had sex through their jeans?

I liked Frigid. The romance was steamy, and I loved the alone in a cabin during a storm set up. I just wish the focus had stayed on the romance without the underdeveloped suspense going on.

I'm giving this book 2 stars, and honestly, one of them is a pity star. But let me explain that...

Frigid and I got off on the wrong foot and we just couldn't get back on track. I honestly don't think it was a 1 star book the entire time, but the problem was just that I walked into it hating Kyler and I couldn't get over it.

Here's a lovely quote from Kyler when he's at a bar/club, basically letting a girl ride him:

Sometimes I had no idea how I ended up in situations like this. Okay. That was a bald-faced lie. What was between my legs was how I ended up in situations like this.

Yes, when in doubt, just blame your penis. Kyler is a huge man whore, taking home a different woman every single night. And his answer for why he does that? It was more or less, "It's not my fault, it's my penis's." It's like he's saying he just can't help it because he has a penis. Boo hoo. Poor freaking you.

But here comes the better part... Kyler is sitting there with this woman practically riding him, when he glances over at the bar and sees Sydney... talking to a guy. His response to this?

Syd really shouldn't be at the bar by herself. Being with Paul didn't count. She needed someone to look out for her, to keep an eye on things.

And Kyler then proceeded to run over there and yank her away from Paul, because heaven forbid that she speak to a man! And I hated his "Sydney is so helpless and needs looking after" attitude. This kind of thing normally doesn't catch my attention. I've read books where it didn't bother me at all, but other reviewers mentioned it. But in this book, it really stood out. As the book went on, I got so sick of Kyler treating Sydney like a child... then I got even more sick of it when I started thinking that maybe she deserved to be treated that way.

Another awesome example: Sydney is getting out of his car when he runs over her, lifts her down from the car himself, and says:

"You'll hurt yourself."

Because she's totally incapable of getting out of a car..

And despite all that, we're just supposed to accept that Sydney loves him. We're never really told why she loves him, even though for years he's made her cry and blown her off so he could screw other women. We're never shown why he's secretly awesome in spite of all of that. We're just supposed to accept it.

But as I said, eventually I wondered if she did actually deserve to be treated like a child who can't handle herself. After a while, I began to notice that Sydney cries (or wants to cry) A LOT!

I wanted to cry—to sit down in the snow and cry.

I wanted to cry. Like a fat, angry baby who wanted to be fed level of crying.

"Don't cry, baby." [..] That only made her cry harder.

I'd cried then. I was about to cry again.

I prayed to God I didn't start crying like a freak in the restaurant.

I wanted to cry, to scream, to rage, and to shove my head under the pillow.

I wanted to cry again, like a baby, because that was the confirmation of all that he'd said.

Put all that together with the way she handled herself sometimes.. and she just came across as extremely... weak. She was a weak character. She just sat around and moped and cried and secretly crushed on a man whore.

And the last point I'll bring up: Frigid is one of those books that makes me hate dual point of view. Sometimes I love dual point of view, but in times like this, I hate it. The problem was that we read from Sydney's point of view and learn that she's been "in love with" Kyler for years. Then we read from Kyler's point of view and realize that he also kind of "loves" Sydney. But neither of them say anything. It's so annoying to know that both characters "love" each other but see both of them do NOTHING about it or misread the other person's signals. I just end up sitting there yelling at both characters to grow some balls and say/do something about it!

Plus, there were so many clichés. Let's sum them up:


* A guy who sleeps around.
* A good girl who doesn't like to party.
* Girl secretly loves guy but thinks he'd never like her because she's not a hot piece of ass.
* Guy secretly loves girl but thinks she'd never like him because he's not good enough for her.
* They both deny their feelings.
* But slowly they grow closer together.
* The rest of the clichés are spoilers.... (show spoiler)[
* The girl finally realizes he does love her!
* Cue sex scene.
* At the end, the girl has a moment of doubt and fears that all he actually wanted was sex.
* Cue dramatic, big argument.
* Both characters realize they were being stupid.
* Kiss and make up.] (hide spoiler)



Overall, I'm massively disappointed. It's sad that I can love one J. Lynn book so much (Wait for You) and hate another one. By the end of the book, I was skimming like a mad woman. I just wanted to be done!!

But the reason I'm giving this book 2 stars instead of 1 is because I honestly think my biggest problem with the book was that I got off on the wrong foot with it. I'm not sure I ever really gave it a chance after I decided that Kyler was a dick. Even when he did some nice, possibly redeeming things at the end, I still wasn't okay with it... because earlier he was a dick. So, yes Frigid, you get a pity star. How about that?

I've decided to stop forcing myself through this. Made it to 14% and I just can't. The characters are flat and unlikeable. I LOVE Armentrout's YA series, but I guess I don't like her NA. *shrugs* If you like this then more power to you. I am just not impressed.

You will notice first off that there is no rating for this book. I know some people rate a book they don't finish 0 or 1 star, but IMO - if I don't finish a book I can't actually give it a star rating. All I can do is to tell you WHY I didn't finish it.

You guys, I only made it to 14% before I had to stop. It was making me RAGE. Both main characters are IDIOTS. Like, I don't think they would have made it into college in real life. They would be flipping burgers at a fast food place (no offense to you if that is what you do).

The story starts off at a bar. Ok, no problem. The girl is sitting there, staring at the boy, whining about how she can't have him, and not wanting to go over there, because there is a girl practically doing him right there at the table. But they are supposed to be best friends ... I'm sorry, if my "best friend" did that in public ALL THE TIME, whether I am in love with him or not, we wouldn't be hanging out much anymore. That is just RUDE. And gross. And it obviously bothers her, so the fact that he does it at all is inconsiderate.

Then we get to his POV. While this random chick is making out with him, he is all wondering where his "best friend" is ... again, RUDE. If you are trying to pick up chicks, then pick up chicks. Don't just sit there and let them make out with you while you are waiting for another girl to show up.

So they finally hang out, after he pushes the chick off him (poor baby, having to push girls away) and he pulls her onto his lap, and at that point I think I blacked out from the WTF-ery happening. I don't ... anyway, the next thing I remember is the next morning, when she shows up to his dorm to leave for their trip. And surprise surprise, random chick from the bar is there. But you know, they didn't sleep together, yet he lets his "friend" think they did. WHAT SENSE DOES THAT MAKE? I don't comprehend any of it.

I finally stopped after they got in the car to start driving and started arguing, about something idiotic I think, I really don't remember. All I remember is thinking "I am only at 14%, am I really going to stop this early in? Yes. Yes I am." These two characters barely acted like they knew and liked each other, let alone are BEST FRIENDS for years. And I just couldn't take it anymore.

I REALLY wanted to like this book, and honestly had been looking forward to it for MONTHS. I've loved the author's YA books, and will continue to read those series, but I think if this is how her NA books are, I won't read anymore.
