I liked this one more than the first, it's still a little predictable but there was more world building and I empathized more with Mira.

As in the first book some questions were answered at the cost of more being created, this one at leas has a resolution, one thing that bothered me in the first was that it just ended, with no clear conclusion to the storyline.

Now I really hope the origins of Danaus is better explored in the future books, no one likes a tease Jocelynn.

I liked Dayhunter, but not as much as the first book. It's still thrilling, and there's plenty of action and violence to go around, but somehow it felt slower to me. It picks up just a few hours after the ending of Nightwalker, with Mira and Tristan feeding after the battle. While they're out, they encounter some new players in this supernatural battle that's brewing. Mira also manages to piss off just about every nightwalker in a position of power, and nearly gets herself and those around her killed. However, she's still the most important piece in the game, so they can't kill her...yet.

I felt like Dayhunter focused on Mira's personal problems a lot more than the larger war with the naturi. Seriously, everyone is out to get her, and it's like the war was put on the back burner so we could see how Mira manages to evade death numerous times. There's also more insight into her past as a human and as a new vampire. I'm normally okay with action subsiding for awhile so the characters can deal with internal and personal struggles, but I don't know Mira enough yet to care. We do get to know her better as the book moves forward, but for the most part I didn't have that connection to her and wanted to get back to the larger picture.

Dayhunter does give us the first sex scene! There's no romance yet, but I'm yearning for Mira and Danaus to get together! They don't in this one, but Mira does hook up with someone. I wasn't feeling it though. There was no passion, just two people (well, a vampire and a werewolf) looking for a release. It was like reading about the characters having lunch or something. This series does continue to remain action focused rather than becoming romance heavy, which is fine, but I'd rather there be no sex than boring sex.

Basically, a lot of Dayhunter felt like filler material. I'm glad to have gotten to know Mira better, since it'll be easier to connect with her in the later books. It was also nice to learn what Danaus really is, although that took away a bit of his mystery far too soon. The plot does really pick up in the last several chapters, and seems to be a solid set up for a huge conflict in Dawnbreaker.
