Paige is an average teen girl who auditions for a movie that is based on a very popular book series called Locked. She gets the role as the main lead and is whisked away to Hawaii to film it. There she ends up falling for the two main boy leads and has to pretty much choose which one she wants to be with.
One thing that bothered me was that Paige, I think, is 17 years old. I would have thought that since she's not really considered an adult yet and that she's flying to Hawaii to film this movie, that one of her parents would have come with her or at least visit? But they don't. They just let her go off and be by herself with people she just met. I found that really strange and unbelievable.
I also skimmed a lot of the last half of the book, mostly because Paige seems to just tell us everything, rather than show it. So I skimmed a lot of the useless descriptions and details that seemed pointless to me or I just didn't care. I was reading the story for the romance and her being introduced to this world that she has never been in before, but there's really not a lot of that. It's mostly Paige telling us what happened that day on set, and then her being in her condo, or her being on the beach swimming, or her randomly running into Rainer or Jordan so conveniently. I had trouble following the days because it seemed like they got a LOT of days off shooting. We rarely get to read about her shooting the movie. It's mostly about her life OFF the set and her relationship with the people shooting the movie.
In the prologue, Paige tells us upfront that she made the wrong choice, between Jordan or Rainer. Then we are taken back to when she first auditioned, and then her meeting the two boys and her falling for both of them, etc. I would have really liked to have gone into the book without reading the prologue. Knowing that she 'made the wrong choice' kind of took away the enjoyment of my reading, and made it very obvious of who she chose. I mean, at first I was trying to figure it out and really was clueless, but as I read on it became very obvious, and then my interest dropped immensely because I knew what was going to happen, and I didn't like where it was headed.
I won't give away who she chooses, because I would say that's the real driving force of the book, but I was shipping her with the other guy SO HARD, and me realizing and knowing that she wasn't going to choose him kind of sucked and took away from it all. Maybe that's what the author wanted, but I wasn't happy. That may also be one reason why I skimmed a ton.
I did enjoy this book for the most part. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either, it was just meh. I think my feelings towards Paige choosing the wrong guy shows that I was a little invested in the story.

I absolutely love books set in the movie world. It’s just something you wish to see, y’know? I’d love to go see a movie being shot one day, to see if it’s really as it’s portrayed, so it was so cool that Famous In Love was set in that world. Books about movies and celebrities and love triangles are just THE BEST. And Famous In Love was pretty damn impressive. I flew through it in one sitting, and I wish I had the sequel RIGHT NOW DAMN IT. Because much liked the fans of Locked, I want to know how this love triangles ends.
Really, love triangles aren’t usually my thing, especially since there’s usually always a pretty clear winner, but Paige’s feelings are clearly so complicated that it could be either or. Her chemistry with Rainer is amazing and he’s so sweet and caring and I can see why that appeals to Paige, when she’s about to take this huge step and become this famous movie star; sometimes you need someone to take care of you and guide your way. But then there’s Jordan, who is not at all how I expected him to be. Sure, he’s brooding and delicious, but he’s got SUCH a good heart and you just want to hug him. And both are easily pickable. (Is that even a word? I doubt it). Both captured my affections. I’m as torn as Paige!!!!!!!!
One of the best things about Famous In Love is the whole story-within-a-story thing. I LOVE THAT. And I love even more than Rebecca has actually written a Locked novella, as Parker Witter, that makes me love her a million times more, because obviously she must know how that story goes, at least a little bit, and I’m always dead curious to know how she saw her story-within-a-story (and I REALLY WANT TO KNOW HOW THE LOCKED TRILOGY ENDS). WHO DOES AUGUST CHOOSE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD?!?!?! I doubt the Locked novella will tell me that, but I appreciate that it’s been written because it’s like getting a sneak peek of something you never get to see (like I wished John Green had written Imperial Afflictions!!!)
Can you tell I loved this book? I did. So much. I can’t believe it took me so long to read it, but I FINALLY DID AND IT WAS ALL I WANTED AND MORE. I swooned, I laughed, I loved the behind the scenes look at movie making and I adored Paige. (And Jordan. And Rainer). I can’t wait for Truly, Madly, Famously (and I LOVE that it’s like the Savage Garden song Truly, Madly, Deeply hehehehe). If you love books about movie stars, and love triangles (THE GOOD KIND) and awesome characters, this is the book for you. It’s GREAT.
