Pynchon writes phenomenal labyrinthine sentences, in his phenomenally labyrinthine book. It's the small water-drop ones that stick, footholds to scale the impossible wall:

"Contour lines and fathom-markings, cross-hatchings and colors where before there were only blank spaces on the map."
