This work is aimed at lecturers who are looking for a text for their organic chemistry course. It is derived from Solomon's "Organic Chemistry", sixth edition. Special topics, which are enrichment topics not central to the core presentation, have been removed. In this new edition, chapters 22 to 25 on biological topics have been condensed and combined. An early focus on organic reactions is presented and an earlier and extensively revised chapter on spectroscopy comes before the two chapters on aromatic compounds. This heavily updated chapter incorporates new FT NMR techniques, and includes new 300 MHz1H NMR spectra as well. The expanded discussion of aromatic compounds in chapter two prepares students to examine spectra of compounds having aromatic groups. There is increased emphasis on reaction mechanisms and all of the representative mechanisms have been revised to give them more prominence. Important mechanisms are given a special presentation called "A Mechanism for the Reaction".
