The slow burn is real, folks. And it very nearly killed me. The whole time I was reading this, I wanted to take Alosa by the shoulders and yell, “YOU’RE IN DENIAL. JUST KISS HIM ALREADY.”

Also, you know that piece of writing advice that goes something like, “Think of the worst thing that could happen to your characters – and then make it even worse?” Well, Levenseller really nails that on the head in this book. The stakes were so high, they were taller than the Empire State Building.

I feel like there’s not a lot to say. Maybe because I read it with the first book. But I think mostly because... well there’s just not a lot to talk about.

Riden and Alosa *are* the book. The threats, the hardships, it isn’t that they’re insubstantial they just... don’t have much impact. They’re more like blips between interactions between Riden and Alosa. They give them something to react to but beyond that...

Gone is the snippy, witty flirting from the first book. It’s all serious and more like a relationship which... is good growth, except when Alosa is being colossally stupid. And they still manage to carry the whole story, along with a few quite fun secondary characters and some pretty decent friendships. It isn’t the most brilliant thing ever but it’s definitely entertaining.

I love standalones, but if a book can't tell the whole story, then I love duologies. It's just a preference of mine. I'll of course read series (and do often), but I tend to find them to have a lot of unnecessary fluff to fill the pages. Not here.

Everything felt necessary to the plot, while continuing to develop the characters into fully fleshed out individuals with charm and flaws and so much adventure. It was just action packed and filled with very real consequences to Alosa's mission.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

My only complaint(ish - that doensn't spoil anything) was the introduction of too many secondary or extremely minor characters. I understood the overall purpose behind it, but I felt that Alosa could have still evolved in the manner that the author was portraying with less characters.

Other than that small issue, I appreciated a pirate book filled with piratey adventures and the consequences of that career path. My other main complaint would spoil too much of the story, but it has to do with Alosa. If you're interested, I don't mind talking about it in the comments.

This is just a fun duology that's fast paced, filled with strong female characters, adventure, and genuinely human bad guys. I recommend it for sure, if you don't mind that with some blah romance as well.

Perfect companion to the first book. Sass, adventure, awesome group dynamics, and a touch of romance.

I didn't love this one as much as its predecessor, but I still adored it.

I was dying for more Alosa and Riden, and I loved every second they shared on page, I just wish there was more of the romance. This was a ship that was so easy to get behind, and I wanted more of the swoony romance that we saw in the first book. What I will say is that Levenseller gave me quality over quantity, because there were some really incredibly romantic moments between these two in Siren Queen.

You know how they say you shouldn't share the stage with animals or kids? Well Levenseller delighted me with that little scene stealing pirate, Roslyn. She was all sorts of precious and precocious, and the interactions between her and her day just melted my heart.

As always, Levenseller packed the book with lots of action and many battles. There were a few battles that resulted in casualties, and I had moments of devastation. There were tears, but I loved seeing Alosa leading her crew and was really pleased with how it all turned out in the end.

Overall: This was a wonderful and satisfying ending to a duology packed with characters I grew to love and will miss.

Such a binge-worthy book! I loved the first book, and this one exceeded the first one. It was heart pounding and adventure packed. I simply could not put it down.
