The blurb, not going to lie confused me at first, and I just couldn’t get my head around what it was about. (Simple folk here) Then I turned my kindle on and within the first sentence I knew why the book was called “Three Bloody pieces” well I was sold and before I knew it, I was off on an adventure.
Set in olden times, so way before phones and social media and way before that! Lady Caitlyn has had a rather pants introduction to us, her life has literally, minutes before we meet her, turned upside down in a gruesome way and is on now fleeing her land, with two trusted men Idris and his surviving son Cai. Fleeing Wales, where she is being hunted down, her father the king being murdered and her husband too being murdered by Seisyll who just wants her land. They flee to meet up with a trusted man of Idris, Lord Wulfstan, and once they get there, it all goes a bit Pete tong moreso than before!
Whilst on their travels, Caitlyn keeps having these vivid visions, daydreams just downright frightening images in her head but they couldn’t be real could they? All she knows she is being drawn (un)willingly to meet a woman called Herleva! At the same time, these visions are there to help her, discovering the truth about people she held dear and trusted!!!
This is where I stop telling you about the book, because I don’t want to ruin it! This is such a fantastic historical piece of fiction, with Castles, Lords, Kings and Queens, Invasions and betrayal! Throw in some witches and shifting you are magically thrown back into a time where you can just lose yourself in a book.
I must admit I had a bit of a girl crush on Caitlyn, this doesn’t happen often, I thought she was such a fab but proper woman of the ages, she was strong and she clearly knew what was wrong and right. Tried to keep the peace but she was not whiney in the slightest. She held her own whilst surviving in her new found life.
I was swept away with this book, it held me and I am glad that again I took the plunge to read this book. I can’t wait for the second book! Excited just thinking about it!
