Kevin L. Carter is a freelance writer who has extensive martial arts experience as a competitor, writer, and broadcaster. A former arts critic and sportswriter at the Philadelphia Inquirer, Carter's articles have appeared in many newspapers and magazines around the world, and he was ESPN's color commentator for the "Night of the Giants" sumo competition. He fought in three World Sumo Championships (1994, '96 and '97) in Tokyo, has competed in dual meets for the U.S. National Sumo Team, and has coached Puerto Rico's national team. A student of Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Carter won his division at the Grapplers' Quest/Copa Atlantica in Bayonne, NJ, in 2003. A graduate of Harvard University and the University of Hawai'I, Kevin loves cooking, eating, and grappling. He lives near Princeton, New Jersey, with his wife and three children.
