I picked up dragon's bride (Book 1) for a bit of a laugh and ended up enjoying the adventure. What I really enjoyed about Dragon's Bride, and again in Kraken's Sacrifice, was the use of past baggage to create drama/conflict rather than just having them be awful to each other for no reason or a really long, drawn out misunderstanding. Despite this, I still found Dragon's Bride to be relatively light-hearted and so I was not expecting Kraken's Sacrifice to make me CRY. Obviously this one hit close to home for me. So I guess Kraken's Sacrifice could be seen as a little more heavy than Dragon's Bride but I would still consider this a pretty fun light-hearted romance. It is a short book so if you are someone who craves a longer, slow-burn enemies to lovers, this might not do it for you. That said, for what it is (a quick, light read) it puts in a good amount of world-building and character development.

Again, I really enjoyed the writing, the care that the author always takes crafting her characters, their backstories, and the way it impacts their relationships. I also lowkey wanna know the story behind the beef (with thanes husband/between krakens &dragons) because we met Sol last book and he's a SWEETHEART.

This was a little deeper than Dragon's Bride and Demon's Bargain, at least to me. Given the short nature of these, while Dragon's Bride thus far has the heaviest subject matter, it also can't be the deepest because of length constraints.
Kraken on the other hand, handles Cat's emotional trauma's in a fairly 'staring down the barrel' manner without necessarily fully resolving them. Which arguably, Dragon's Bride didn't do either, but somehow this feels like a bigger pay-off. A more realistic pay off, perhaps.
Still I greatly enjoyed this, the rawness in Thane and Cat drew me in, and kept me in until the very last page. I'd stick the spice at a 3.5/5 chilis.
