Technically you could absolutely read this book on it's own, but I'm really glad to be reading the series in order because I already knew the main characters - Molly and Gavin - from the first book with Rachel. Molly is Rachel's best friend and mother to her twins best friend, Ollie. And then there's Gavin, Rachel's ex and father to the twins. Molly has - perhaps overly dutifully - hated Gavin for the way he fucked up as a dad and (ex) husband. The thing is, while you saw him screwing up in the first book with Rachel, you never get the sense he's a bad guy... just a good guy who's making a lot of mistakes. Molly has never given him a chance.
But through a series of events in There's Something About Molly, Molly gets to see exactly the truth of Gavin. He is a good guy - possibly a great guy - who's always been trying really hard and may finally be getting it right in respect to co-parenting with her best friend (who is now married to his brother... you really gotta read the first book LOL). I dare you not to fall head over heels for him along with Molly. I doubt you could do it. And then there's Molly, who has a tragic habit of finding the perfect person for someone else while on a first date. She matches her first dates up with someone else all the time.
This book had so much great humor, one of my favorite tropes (fake relationship), and solid characters. I'm loving these books and look forward to reading the next one. The narration is just as good -- Petrea Burchard gives a great performance, bringing the characters' personalities and the humor off the page and to life.
