Deric Longden wasn't a cat lover, but from the moment he saw the tiny kitten sitting on an upturned bucket down in the garden he was hooked. Strictly speaking it was the neighbour's cat, but somehow when the rain started it seemed only natural to bring the little creature inside. Once there, it slipped so easily into Deric's and Aileen's lives that there was an unspoken agreement between all three that it had found its real home. Aileen being Aileen, it was probably inevitable that sooner or later it would spend several hours trapped inside the refrigerator, and Deric being Deric, the obvious way to thaw it back to life was to wrap it in a thermal vest that had got itself accidentally shrunk. So the cat who came in from the cold got its name - Thermal. It became another of the characters who populate the author's world, and this book is written in his customary style of gentle humour, comic solemnity and cuddly charm.
