This work is set in April 1945. Field Marshal Montgomery, Commander of the British Army in North Germany, is about to fight his last battle of World War Two. He will fight against the fanatical Germany commander, Admiral Doenitz whose U-boats almost brought Britain to the verge of starvation in 1941. But unknown to the world, even to Montgomery's allies the Americans, Monty is also going to fight another battle. It is against the Russian ally advancing from the east. It is the aim of the Red Army to capture the mouths of the North German rivers feeding into the Baltic and North Sea. Once the Russians have captured these they will be dominating the sea routes to Britain. The UK will be the prime target in the coming 'Cold War'. Monty has tried to explain this to Eisenhower, the US Supreme Commander, but 'Ike' is not talking to the pesky Britisher and won't give him the extra men and supplies he needs for this strange three-sided battle. Monty decides to go it alone. Using his special reconnaissance units, he sends them forward, heading for the seas and aiming at stopping the Germans forming a solid front in North Germany.
