Ellie is an all-american-hockey-loving tomboy, who at almost 16, finally meets a boy who calls her by her first name. This summer apart from her three best friends brings her a lot of important firsts, but she is struggling with this new image, oh, and that boy, who calls her by her first name may be a serial killer. I love Kelly Oram books because she is dependable. She crafts these adorable romances, that warm my heart and make me smile. She creates these characters that make you smile and, in the case of Ellie, make you want to be their friend. She brings the funny -- always. I chuckled and laughed audibly quite often. To sum it up: this is an adorable, fun read filled with great and likable characters.
OH.POR.DIOS. Es como si nunca vaya a entender. Siempre que intento hacer un libro de Kelly Oram, algo sencillo que me deje satisfecha. SIEMPRE, pero ¡siempre termino con una resaca por días!
Asesinatos, UNSUB, FBI, MO (modus operandi).
So cute! If you want a funny, sweet, teen romance/drama this is a great book. I found Ellie to be relatable which was a nice balance to Seth-who was a bit 'much'. I would have given it 5 stars if he were more realistic but it didn't ruin the book or anything. Still cute and enjoyable!
Kelly Oram definitely knows how to write a book - this was just such a fun book to read, with such an unusual characters; mainly, stalkers. But not the creepy kind. Well, a little bit creepy, but mostly just really amusing, sweet and fun. I really enjoyed reading this book! The characters in the story are, as mentioned before, pretty unique.
Ellie is the main character and the voice of the story. She's strong and throughout the book discovers herself as both a girl and a tomboy, learning to accept both parts in her, to realize there's no shame in wearing girly cloths. She's also feisty and takes crap from no-one, which I loved. But... she was also SUPER frustrating! Toward the end I was screaming at her on her stupidity! "Listen to your guts and STOP BEATING ON YOUR BOYFRIEND FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!" I cried out-loud. She didn't listen :
Angela is Ellie's older sister. I had a love/hate relationship with her. I hated her because: at first, she refused to listen to the fact Ellie was truly scared of Seth, and later because she kept trying to set them apart. But she was doing it all from a good place, all because she cares, so I couldn't really hate her, you know?
Seth is Ellie's new neighbor, and he's a really creepy (but also really sweet) stalker. But all those are a great thing because he is supposed to give off these feelings! He breaks into Ellie's room, he watches her all the time, he leaves her little sweet messages in the most unusual--and creepy--manner. He's supper jealous and super protective, super athletic and super messed up. He's also really amusing and adorable to read about, imagine that. Admittedly, he's pretty confusing, with the mixed signals we, the readers, get about him, but I loved him regardless. In fact, at a certain point--what with Ellie's pigheadedness (I'm not sure whether this is a proper word...)-- I was thinking he's too good and forgiving for Ellie, which goes to prove just how much he grew on me.
I think Seth and Ellie make a perfect couple because no-one other than Ellie can control and accept Seth. He's pretty messed up (albeit a hot, adorable mess), but when she gets used to him she don't get scared at his crap and it doesn't even faze her. She's more than capable to boss HIM around. Also, she enjoys all that forceful stuff.
As for the ending... While I loved it, I kind of wanted to see what happened after the ordeal. Did her friends start talking to her again, how did their relationship get accepted in school, all that jazz.
In the copy I have I got bonus parts from Seth's POV - the first chapter and the first time he saw Ellie. It was awesome to read, but they also made him look not nearly as crazy/creepy as the rest of the book. He seemed aware of becoming a stalker and that it's not good, which conflicted with the him I came to know in the book. I still loved it, though, and I'm interested in reading the entire book from his POV... which probably will never happen :/
If you're looking for a fun, light, enjoyable read with unique main characters and an interesting romance, this is the book for you!
Tomboy Ellie has always been "one of the guys", not the type of pretty girl the guys flock to like her sister Angela. So when Seth moves in across the street and starts giving her all of his attention, she is more than suspicious. When girls in surrounding areas start turning up dead and they all bare a striking resemblance to Ellie, she starts to freak out. Her parents start blaming puberty and hormones combined with her crush on the model-hot boy across the street. Ellie sees it for what she thinks it really is, drool-worthy Seth is a serial killer, and she is next on his list!
This book was wonderful! First things fist, you know Seth isn't really the serial killer. That isn't the way Young Adult books work. You know that it will end up with Ellie being paranoid, but oh gosh is he a legit suspect or what!? You know he won't end up being the killer though. That cute cover and the easy-going likability of the writing style spoils it from the first chapter. There is no way the author will let poor Ellie fall in love with this perfect boy just to shatter her heart like that. Sure, there were A LOT of times where I had to question that belief, but it was the stance I stuck to while I was reading. I wasn't going to let go of my faith that it would turn out alright and they would end up together.
The characters are fantastic! Ellie is perfect, even though I don't understand tomboys being a girly-girl myself, I still adored her. Her reactions and the way she handles herself around her friends is just perfect. She is so confident and knows herself so well. Even when things are changing and she is falling in love for the first time, she doesn't become this whiny heroine. Does she maybe need anger management? Possibly, but she is a tomboy. Boys are like that, tomboys who have to hold their own against the real boys have to be worse. It makes sense. Angie can be a bit annoying, but she really did try to help even when she was messing things up. Travis was a complete jerk, ugh, I remember guys like him from high school. I made him my number one suspect through things. You get to hear about Ellie's best friends the J's who are at camp through things, but I would've liked to actually see more of them. For them to be her best friends it felt wrong for them to be so detached from the story. Seth is so perfect. Sure, he is intense and a bit creepy, but when his story comes out it all falls into place and you can't help but fall as much in love with him as Ellie had.
The writing is smooth and light. I like that. I like that it wasn't trying too hard but it wasn't totally intense either. It was a perfect flow to let a romantic mystery exist without freaking you out. I don't like overly suspenseful novels, so I appreciate that. The plot has twists and turns. I NEVER expected the killer to be who it ended up being. It all clicked in my head just before it became wicked obvious in the novel and I felt stupid for not seeing it. It made so much freaking sense but I never saw it coming. Love that! I love when a novel takes me completely by surprise.
This was a fantastic read. If you like a romance with some murder-mystery elements to it, this is a fabulous choice. Recommended to all!
