We've reached a point in the books where you devour the novel in record speed as you desperately want to find out what's behind the big mystery. The whole VFD thing is so fascinating and with each chapter a new layer is added. I am deeply impressed how intricate the story is.
I also love how the Beaudelaire children struggle with their own identity. Are they slowly becoming villains too? Or do their good intentions justify their actions? Just another layer of a fascinating plot!
With each mystery and problem solved we find something new in need of explaining. The next installment is already waiting for me and I'm super excited to find out whether there will be a happy end for Violet, Klaus and Sunny.

The story gets even more fascinating and intricate. By now, A Series of Unfortunate Events is definitely one of my favourite book series!

The Slippery Slope is the first Series of Unfortunate Events book I'm reading after a very long hiatus. I very much enjoyed returning to this world, where the narrator tries to scare the reader off at every opportunity he gets, and where numerous meta-fictional references are made. In The Slippery Slope, we see some shifts happening in the usually rather static main characters. Sunny, the baby of the group, is starting to grow up. Violet, the oldest Baudelaire, meets a boy she has a private moment with on a ledge in the middle of a frozen waterfall.

They totally kiss. It's not described, but it's hinted at pretty heavily. Go Violet!

Though it's a slow trickle, we do get more information about the V.F.D., and I'm looking forward to learn more about the parents of the Baudelaires and their organisation.

Still great! There were a few great surprises in this one. Sunny continues to grow up, and the Baudelaires find a new(ish) friend. I even thought that things were going to be looking up for the orphans, but I should have known better.
