Succubus Heat is one of the best in the series so far for me. Which is funny, because I found myself irritated with pretty much ALL the characters, I'm supposed to like lol. But there was a great mystery, great series progression, and lots of excitement. I think Anne (we buddy read) felt the same way - I know she's also giving it 4 stars.

So, Georgina continues to be likeable and annoying all in one. Frankly, she's like a teenager you like. Good intentions, sweet a lot of the time, but so incredibly immature. Especially in her relationships. In this book, she's reeling from a breakup, dating someone not-so-great (though, I am probably the one person who liked him for most the book), and just acting destructively - drinking a lot, annoying everyone who cares for her, etc... like I said, a teenager. And in a YA book that can be annoying but expected. Georgina is supposed to be an adult, so it's even more annoying. Seth, a character I've liked went to the "dark side" for me. He was teetering there in the last book and he crossed some lines for me in Succubus Heat. I don't want to be spoilery, but yeah, he ticked me off.

As much as they annoyed me, they kept things interesting. And then there's the actual plot. There's a territory battle happening, and it escalates in ways that you don't expect and really don't see coming. It not only caught me off guard but had me at the edge of my seat trying to figure out what would happen. The last 15-20% was like a whirlwind as everything fell into place and I found myself going "Wha? Wha? WHAT?!" repeatedly. And yet, if I had been paying attention to the right clues, I would have figured it out.

Things are left with lots of questions and excitement for where the series will go next. I have theories and speculation, but if this book proves anything, I can't possibly guess correctly. I'm excited to keep reading.

This book was narrated by Elisabeth Rodgers again and her narration continues to work really well for me. I think she does voices well, and I especially appreciated her Canadian accent when appropriate in this book. I look forward to continuing listening to her performances.

The feels I got while listening to Succubus Heat

• Hopeless:  Georgina is angry, filled with self-loathing and trying to lose herself and escape the pain. In fact, she has pissed off Jerome (her Demon ruler) with all her antics. I feel for her and its breaking my heart. She is heartbroken and lashing out with a “never care” attitude. I know Seth loves her, but I am so angry. Seeing Seth and working at the bookstore with his super nice, chipper girlfriend Maddie would suck the life out of anyone.


• Road Trip Woot! Jerome sources Georgina out to Cedric, the Vancouver Demon. He needs help with a Demon Worshiping Cult that is stirring up trouble. It was fun getting out of Seattle, and a busy Georgina cannot be caught up in her sorrows.


• Immortals in Stasis: The mystery in Succubus Heat was fantastic and created an opportunity for all the immortal creatures in Seattle to lose some of their abilities. For the first time Vampiress can walk in daylight. Georgina is still immortal but very much human. Mead exposes a very vulnerable side of our kick-ass heroine. You know what is going to happen right? I also cannot stop thinking about those dreams she had. Gads!


• Seth and Georgina: I need truffles. My emotions are all over the place. This aspect of the story ripped out my guts, made me happy and then left me bitchy. I had a problem with one aspect of this storyline. There is Cheating. However, it was bittersweet, beautiful and yet cruel. Is it better to know or better to wonder?


• An exceptional storyline: Mead blew me away with Succubus Heat. Sure she had my emotions all over the place but the concept and execution were amazing, We have politics, betrayals, human emotions and a mystery to solve. She balanced these threads beautifully all while pulling my heart along on a string. Surprisingly she still made me laugh and there were even snarky moments


• Hail, Hail the Gang's All Here: We didn’t see a lot of the motley crew of supernaturals and I missed them. I have mixed feelings about Dante, but he is good to Georgina. Carter and his rules. Loosen up Carter! We did meet new characters and players in the supernatural world. It was fun seeing Georgina interact with them.


• Listening Rocks! Elisabeth Rodgers the narrator for this series is exceptional. She captures the tone and emotions of the characters and story creating an enhanced experience.

In Succubus Heat, our good succubus has gone bad. After losing Seth, it’s like Georgina has lost her will to even try. She’s dating Dante, smoking, drinking, and generally being a bitch to everyone around her. It’s gotten so bad that even her demonic boss has had enough of her attitude. First, sending her to therapy, and when that doesn’t work, he loans her out to another demon to take care of a nuisance Satanist cult. In Canada. But while there, Jerome suddenly disappears along with all of his immortals’ abilities.

I love Succubus Heat even more the second time around! Watching Georgina navigate the world as a quasi-mortal kills me! She’s spent so long not having to worry about anything harming her, but now even walking three blocks from her apartment to her job is a struggle. Before she only had to worry about Seth’s mortality, but now she’s very aware of her own. And Seth is as well, and realizes how it had been for her when they were together. It’s all very touching, but nothing lasts forever.

Succubus Heat is just amazing. I can’t say too much without giving anything away, because so much happens! There’s so many twists, turns, and unexpected events. The status quo in Seattle has completely shifted. Everyone is aware that anything could happen at any time. And even though Georgina thought she was doing the right thing in the end, she’s actually caused far more damage than she ever anticipated. It hurts my heart!

Succubus Heat was excellent. I think that Georgina is a very complex character. Even though she is works for Hell, she has a good heart. Most of the things she does, she does out of kindness. However, we see a selfish side to her in this book, but a lot that happens is bittersweet. I had reservations when I read the blurb, but the execution of the story was perfect. The author pulled out a lot of different emotions as I was reading this. This is a wonderful series and I feel a connection with each of the characters. I look forward to reading the next one.
