The authors of "The Green Consumer Guide" have conducted a survey of every UK supermarket chain and some 300 manufacturers of food and non-food items. They make assessments of brand-name and own-brand goods, directing readers to areas where their consumer power can have the most effect. John Elkington runs an independent consultancy whose clients have included BP, the Design Council, Glaxo, the Nature Conservancy Council and the United Nations Environment Programme. He also sits on advisory panels at the Central Electricity Generating Board, the Merlin Ecology Fund and the Nature Conservancy Council. Having written numerous books and reports, he is also the co-author, with Tom Burke, of "The Green Capitalists" and, with Tom Burke and Julia Hailes, "Green Pages: The Business of Saving the World". Julia Hailes has worked in advertising and TV production. Having travelled extensively in the Americas, she joined the Earthlife Foundation in 1986 and then in 1987 helped to set up Sustainability, "the green growth company", with John Elkington and Tom Burke.
