Nadz@Totally Addicted to Reading

I have been a fan of this series from outset and I have enjoyed all the books I have read. Therefore, I was happy to get my hands on this installment. Ms. Heaton is known for creating a paranormal world steeped in realism featuring a wide variety of relatable characters both human and supernatural. Avenged by An Angel was no different.
The main characters, Emelia and The Fourth Commander of the Echelon (an organisation of angels) were no strangers having appeared in the previous books. Emelia, an Archangel huntress, had been held prisoner by a dragon shifter when she had gone to hell to assist in a battle. She was eventually rescued, but bore both the physical and emotional scars from that experience.
The Fourth Commander was assigned the task of finding Sable and bringing her back to his realm to take up the vacant position in the Echelon. What he thought would be an easy task proved a challenge as Sable was mated to the Demon King of the third realm. He was determined to go through with his assignment despite this unforeseen obstacle, but his plan was interrupted when he met Emelia with whom he had an immediate connection. The sight of her scars had him chomping at the bit to have the dragon shifter responsible for her scars punished.
I enjoyed watching the development of the relationship between these two. I loved how patient the Fourth Commander was with Emelia. He recognized her fears, and he helped her to overcome them. Their love for each other gave her the strength to overcome her biggest fear and helped him to soothe his dark side.
The events in this installment coincided with incidents from previous books. As a result, scenes from these books were repeated in this installment. I understood the need for the repetition as it aided in the story’s development.
The author provided a glimpse into Archangel’s nefarious plans as it concerns the supernatural beings. I would have loved more information regarding their plans and I hoping it would further developed in the next installment.
The fight scenes were graphic and intense as usual. There were moments when I had bouts of anxiety as it relates to Emelia coming face to face with her enemy.
The story ended abruptly leaving me with questions regarding the drama surrounding the jealous healer and the two new arrivals to hell.
Conclusion/Recommendation
Overall, a great addition to the series. I would recommend the series to fans of paranormal romance.
