This book touched on everything. Rape...check. Forced marriage...check. Teen mom....check. Preemie baby...check. Death of a child....check. Spousal abuse....check. Abortion....check. Great Depression...check. Indian/white relations....check. Prostitution....check. Drug/alcohol abuse...check.
The only fault I had with the book was that everything was made to be alright and it seemed a little contrived at times. Everything was taken care of...like Marge's first marriage. Ed and Mac were killed off right around the same time when Marge was finding herself and finding love. But, it didn't take away from the book.
I gave this book a 4 star review on Shelfari. The only thing holding me back from giving it a five star review was what I wrote in the last chapter. Everything was taken care of in a timely fashion.
Would I reccomend this book to friends. Absolutely. It was a great read and a nice peek into Depression Era San Francisco. Plus, like I said above, I think it was cool that it was written by a 90 year old woman.
