A young woman police sergeant has applied successfully for a transfer to C.I.D. As a graduate entrant with clear potential, she has weathered resentment and occasional sexual harassment from a few jealous male colleagues, but has never wavered from her determination to become a detective. Naturally inquisitive, she sometimes risks personal danger in her enthusiasm to reach a solution. Her first case, a murder with no apparent motive and no obvious suspect, leads her to delve deep into the victim's past, including a visit to Canada, where, in the course of her enquiries, she also finds romance. On her return she is plunged immediately into the investigation of a criminal gang amid suspicion of possible police involvement.
