Romance Schmomance

I'm going to start off by saying that I'm not big into holiday reads, I'm not exactly sure why. And I'm positive that makes me sound like the Grinch, but I do love seeing them on the big screen. This was my first holiday read probably ever. I kept seeing everywhere thatĀ Christmas Camp is a Hallmark movie, I've been living abroad for the past year and a half, so not having Hallmark during the holidays have been a major buzz kill. I found this read rather enjoyable, but the romance lover in me just needed a bit more.
Christmas Camp was a first time read by this author, I had no idea that this author is the reason we haveĀ A Christmas Prince, probably one of my favorite holiday movies to watch. I loved the premise of this Christmas Camp that Haley has to go to. I wouldn't say that she's a Grinch, but she really needed to take a step back and set her priorities straight. Nothing against dedicating your life to your work, but you definitely need to enjoy your life and spend it with the ones that matter the most.
Obviously the whole concept of getting a promotion, Haley would have to attend this camp, but it was a bit too far fetched for me and too me away from the story overall. And it had me not really connecting with her character at all. But I loved all the supporting characters instantly especially the owner, Ben.
Like I mentioned earlier, I really wanted more in the romance department. It made it tough to believe that Jeff and Haley had a thing for each other, there were hints here and there, but not quite believable. I saw that this was a movie first before she wrote the book, which explained a lot.
Christmas Camp is a easy holiday read that you can definitely enjoy with a hot cup of cocoa. I will personally watch the movie in my pjs, curled up on the couch eating some popcorn, though! The Christmas Camp Wedding will be releasing in just the matter of days, I'm looking forward to reading that one!
Major thank you to William Morrow for the advanced reader's copy!
