This book is set during the Scottish war for independence and we follow Christina Bruce (or de Brus) who was the sister to Robert Bruce, who later became king of Scotland. I don't know much about this time period, and therefore can't really comment on how accruent the book are in that regard. But from the small amount of research I have done after reading the book, it does seem to be quite accurate (but please don't quote me on that). So I really enjoyed getting to know some more about the Scottish history during my read of this book.
I really liked Christina as a character and though she was done really well in the book. But we got introduced to quite a few male characters, who we met multiple times during the book, but we didn't really get to know them. And so every time one of them recurred in the story I couldn't remember who they where, which was quite confusing.
Other than that I though it was a really atmospheric book, and I was mostly enjoying myself during my read of it.
