I started My Sister's Grave by Robert Dugoni on a whim. I was reading a physical book but didn't have a light source. My Sister's Grave was on Kindle Unlimited and I figured if nothing else it would keep me entertained for the evening whether or not I ever finished it.

I was pleasantly surprised. Robert Dugoni kept me entertained for the entirety of the book. He gave me enough information to draw conclusions but not enough information to draw conclusions but not enough information to draw the right ones.

I read My Sister's Grave in just three days...in the middle of a move...while running a household on my own. Dugoni kept a great pace. Tracy Crosswhite is a great protagonist, and the setting and cast of characters were so enjoyable. I also really enjoyed Dugoni revealed Sarah's fate.

Even if the second book wasn't on Kindle Unlimited I'd buy the next book. (Actually I DID buy the second book in physical format). I'm excited to see where Tracy will go next!

We like this book (me and the my reading Pal) but we thought of an even better ending. I am sure we will bump into that ending. Meanwhile, we are going to read the next in the series....

Fond Of

Fantastic pacing, slow but steady laying out all the information at hand letting us form our own opinion as the plot and characters develop.

I truthfully thought I had it figured out within the first half of the book. It stared me in the face and seemed painfully obvious. But the author throws a boomerang and brings the reader an Tracy back to the start.

Not Fond Of

It had what I call "Goosebump Chapters" very short and ending on a cliff-hanger, having the reader rush to the next chapter only to find it was a cat behind the squeaky door.


Final Thoughts:
Robert Dugoni created a stay-up-all-night thriller and looks to be the beginning of a great proposed series.

This has been on my to read list for a lifetime and I finally got around to it and now I'm hooked. I stayed up all night reading. That said, while this is good and I did enjoy it - it is extremely long. The mystery was fascinating but there's a lot of mundane detective work. It's not a thriller as such. Which will undoubtedly make it not for everyone. Frame of reference it's more like Cold Case than Law and Order SVU or Criminal Minds.

Tracy was an interesting character. She was stubborn and resilient but she was surprisingly vulnerable. I thought it was actually addressed really well - her grief and sadness and fears - but it's also never the main focus of the novel.

The case itself was riveting. I didn't see the twist coming (although maybe I should have). I didn't like the final motive at the end. He was always after her? Are you freaking kidding me? That kind of ruined it for me. Not completely - because for 95% of this book I was hooked but the last 5% certainly made me disappointed. I've already read and finished the second book. And I'll definitely pick up the rest.
