Ireland Nemesis is a rapidly paced exercise in establishing and maintaining high-octane tension. It concerns high living and romance and gruesome murders in exotic locations such as Thailand, Portugal and South Africa as well as the gritty feeling of the IRA's Ireland. It is narrated by Markham, a man with a past, including university, CIA work and jail, who is employed at Government level to investigate potential drug smuggling by the IRA. Various characters, including the voluptuous Kand Poth and the charismatic Turkish hit man Daler Hanoz, float in and out of the story, which culminates in a strong and effective denouement of an attempt to blow up a major British Government establishment.
