Set in the Costa Brava and London, Sexy Beast is a romance/gangster movie. The story centres on ex-villain Gary Dove (Nil By Mouth's Ray Winstone) who has retired to a Spanish villa with the wife he loves. Their idyllic lifestyle is shattered by the arrival of his gangster nemesis Don Logan (Gandhi star Ben Kingsley) intent on persuading him to return to London for a big heist. Desperate not to sacrifice his way of life, Dove is drawn into a battle of wills with Logan, ending in an explosive psychological showdown, and a spectacular underwater bank robbery in which he must risk everything to protect the woman he loves. The film is directed by Jonathan Glazer, the man behind the recent, spectacular Guinness advertisement featuring horses in the waves. The novelisation of Sexy Beast will be part of the FilmFour Books launch list, which concentrates on the strength of the FilmFour brand in promoting the best new British and international independent movies. It is the perfect accompaniment to one of 2000's most exciting and interesting British films.
