When Rhonwen discovers her husband is spending his early retirement playing bowls and conducting an affair, her response is coldly murderous. But the relief of retribution is replaced by a guilt which haunts her in the form of a ram with red horns. Pushed to the point of madness she begins a new life and confronts her husband's mistress. The unexpected results are a surprise to her and the small town in which she lives.
Rhys Davies' last novel, discovered many years after his death, is an intriguing mix of irony and compassion in which women take control of their lives.
Rhys Davies (1903-1978) was an important and prolific novelist and writer. A friend of D.H. Lawrence, his fiction is notable for its strong women characters and exploration of human emotion.
