Timothy Adair is a Scot, a MapMaker in Lisbon during the Age of Discovery. Through his office over the harbor parade fools of a special kind: Kings, Famous Explorers, Clergy, Natives and Italian Agents. What the MapMaker wants most is to be left alone with his `Mathematica' to draw his lines, create his colorful maps, simply do his work. His talents however have everyone chasing the him in their own pursuits of conquest, gold, God and empire.
