It's Big Pig's birthday and Little Pig has bought her a present. He's bought wrapping paper, sticky tape and ribbon too. The problem is that the sticky tape is so sticky it keeps sticking to Little Pig instead of the paper. So Iittle Pig goes to his wise friend, Owl, for help. But Owl too gets in a mess, and so does Elephant, and Monkey's no help - he just ties them all up in the ribbon and runs off giggling. Crocodile gets Little Pig and friends out of their tangle, but now the wrapping is all ruined. Little Pig bursts into tears. All is not lost, though, for Spider comes to the rescue, whizzing round and round and up and down and in and out and round about until the present is beautifully wrapped in a silvery, shiny web. Happily, the friends take the present to Big Pig, who rips off the wrapping in two and a half seconds flat to discover a scooter. Off she scoots, while the others enjoy a splendid birthday party picnic. Debi Gliori is the author and illustrator of four "domestic" family tales: "New Big House"; "New Big Sister"; "My Little Brother" and "When I'm Big". She has also illustrated four Lizzie books (by David Martin).
