I was anxious to begin reading Brody's story because his character was very stable and loving. He also revealed his past history with slavery and it seemed to haunt him. I couldn't wait to delve deeper into what made him react as he did. While trying to clear Brody's name the three of them time traveled into Brody's past when he was enslaved. From that point on it was a mix of adventure, intrigue, and enough plot twists to make it painful to put down. Brody and Taylor arrived in the past together at a time when Brody was human, but Veris arrived much later just in time to save the day. The plot detailed a number of violent acts suffered by Brody, and Taylor's clever strategies to keep them both alive while waiting for Veris. I was so caught up in this book I was in tears reading about the many ways Brody was abused. I could feel Taylor's pain as she worked to save Brody and accept that he had to die to become a vampire. It was just heart wrenching, and the author's imagery and descriptive words made it very easy to transport yourself into Veris, Taylor, or Brody's shoes. This book was a roller coaster ride of emotions, and I enjoyed every moment.
With the depth of character development continuing and an exciting storyline that involves new and familiar characters this book is a must read for all paranormal romance fans.
