I have to admit, this book broke my heart. Many awful things had befallen the Beaudelairs but I hadn't seen this coming. Or at least I had desperately wished for events not to turn this way. After this end, I really hope things will finally change in the book.
If even possible The Penultimate Peril will confuse you even more than you already are. Many new characters are introduced and many old friends and enemies return. However, we end up no closer to the solution than we had been before.
So if Daniel Handler aka Lemony Snicket doesn't clear this up in the final nobel, I will be really mad at him!

The Penultimate Peril was the saddest installment in the Series of Unfortunate Events so far. I can't wait for the final to make things right!

I don’t think I’ve properly expressed how great I think these books are. They are books meant for 9 year old and up, and they use words like penultimate! Correctly! They are interesting, exciting, deliciously dark, and so so so intelligent. I’m a bit sad that there’s only one book left in the series, but I’m enjoying how everything is starting to wrap up.
