I was expecting to like this - but I just didn't. The first three quarters were enjoyable but the constant miscommunications annoyed me. The last quarter just irritated me. She gets pregnant? Really? And he doesn't come home? The whole thing just pissed me off. The romance failed towards the end.

Plus it wasn't what I expected. It sounded like it was going to be a feisty heroine who pursues a nice man but it really wasn't. For one, I don't know that Elliot was all that nice. For two, Anabelle wasn't particularly feisty or confident. And she didn't really pursue him either. Neither of them said what was on their mind. Neither really made a move. And while Elliot was mostly at fault for keeping them in limbo, Anabelle wasn't particularly motivated to fix it.

So honestly I'm wavering between 2 and 3 stars because it just wasn't as good as some of Sara Ney's other books. 2.5 stars, rounded down.

Should have known we’d get here…

I honestly started this book horrified. The first person we’re introduced to is an absolute KNOB. But, Sara Ney holds a significant talent for getting me past KNOB status to…I think I love him…with a word or two. So, I settled in and braced for impact.

But, it didn’t come. Turns out, I got my heroes mixed up. At first, I’m thinking *Oh cool, we’re going to avoid the colossal mess of Douchebag status and head straight to - I’m an intelligent, respectful man, with a brain*. Don’t hate me, but I kind of wish we got the Douchebag come good storyline.

For the first half of the book, I thought I’d be trying to come up with a term for a female douche. Douchepurse? Douchehandbag? Doucheclutch? I struggled with Anabelle, her choices and her (supposed) burdens. She was just a little too immature and self-absorbed. I’ve come to appreciate the heroine’s in the Douchebag series for their intelligence, independence and positive attitudes. I just found Anabelle a little lacking.

A predictable storyline that was exacerbated by bad choices, immaturity and selfishness, left me sighing. I had such high hopes for the conclusion to this series. With the tease that the hero wasn’t going to be a douchebag, I was looking forward to a storyline where intelligence and maturity stole the day. To be honest, I think we were lied to. I’m pretty sure there was a douchebag or two lurking in The Coaching Hours.

I’m not going to go too far into the storyline because I don’t want to spoil it, but I will say that I did finish with a smile on my face. That closing scene with Rex…CRACKED ME UP!!

The Douchebags are back!!! So, here are my thoughts:

•  Rex and Eric are seriously assholes!! There ARE Douchebags in this book and they are Gunderson and Johnson!! Seriously, I have never wanted an author to kill off a character so much in my life.


•  Ana is pretty solid! She recognizes that her mom's feelings regarding her dad cloud her judgement and she is reaching out to be closer to her father despite her mom. Very mature!


• Elliot is a GOOD guy. He thinks Ana is cool and is okay with having her as a roommate. Then he realizes she's a girl. An attractive girl. And suddenly he can't stop thinking about her! But, he's a good guy, so he keeps things platonic.


• Ana and Elliot build a solid friendship first and that is so nice!

This book was a departure from the previous because Elliot and Ana don't need to change their ways to stop being douche-y. They are surrounded by douchebags though and that causes some drama! Overall, I think Ana and Elliot were the most relatable couple of this series!

The Coaching Hours gives you the somewhat raunchy one liners you expect from this series, combined with likable main characters to provide you with laughter and a pinch of angst! Overall, a great addition to the series!
