A quick, light little read. Being a fairy tale retelling and having read the next book in the series there weren’t many surprises (even though it tried).

And the story wasn’t so much woven as explained.

And Rumplestilskin is too obviously pulled from Once Upon a Time in his physical description and high précised laugh am general demeanor. And there’s a line from Harry Potter toward the end. Innocuous but distinct enough that I recognized it. So I would have liked, even if she was inspired by these things, for the author to have made them more her own.

But I liked when the moment came that the heroine told the truth, all of it. And the understanding the main characters gave each other without being stubborn or stupid or judgmental or anything. It was a nice sort of gracious storytelling that I enjoyed.
