At first, I was really into this book. It had me until about two-thirds of the way through, and then it lost me completely. Before I get too spoilery, I’ll say, generally, that this book was entirely too long. As it went on, it seemed to me that even Wolfe was getting tired with the story, and by the end, had completely petered out in terms of effort. The final third of the novel felt rushed, and resulted in very, very little payoff for the reader.
