This series for teachers of children with reading difficulties has been developed to help children who have a reading age of around two years behind their chronological age. Wellington Square is a fictional neighbourhood. All the stories and activities are centred on events in the lives of the children, their families and friends, all of whom live in and around Wellington Square, aiming to absorb and motivate children. There are five levels, each comprising a set of six main reading books, ranging from wordless picture books at Level 1 to 32 page story books with some full-page text at Level 5. There is also a package of software which can be used to complement all five levels, comprising games, activities and files of words, sentences and questions for each level as well as a facility for teachers and pupils to create their own programs.
This level 2 teacher's resource pack contains method notes and photocopiable material, including teacher's "storytext", which is a full version of each story for the teacher to tell or to record on tape to prepare the children for the reading of the story, to stimulate their command of oral English and to create enthusiasm for the story in a way that a very simple, graded text cannot. Photocopiable separate captions to the Level 2 picture stories and photocopiable versions of these stories for children to match together and make into their own DIY books are included in the text, in addition to worksheets, various games and activities.
