Four famous children's classic tales have been simplified and abridged for younger readers in these distinctive, beautifully designed and illustrated packages. A modern, color-illustrated book nests inside a "chest" that presents the illusion of an old-fashioned volume. Each chest also holds materials for an activity project that relates to the story in the book -- including maps and instructions for making models of items or costumes relating to the tales. Fact boxes appear as sidebars on the books' pages, and describe items in the stories that children might not recognize. The stories are exciting and easy to read -- just the thing to whet young appetites for more ambitious reading as the children grow older!

Dorothy and her dog Toto escape from a Kansas tornado, only to be dropped into a strange land where they meet the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Woodman, and the Scarecrow. Soon they're off to find the Emerald City -- but first they must deal with the Wicked Witch of the West! Accompanying the book are a map of Oz with cardboard cutout of the Emerald City, a sheet of kiss stickers from the Good Witch, emerald green glasses, and a bottle of make-believe Cowardly Lion Courage.
