This book is well written and moves at a decent pace. The characters and the setting (the Silicon Valley) are very believable. Although there is plenty of description in the dialogue, it is never too much and adds to the plot, rather than distracting the reader from it. The plot centres around the murder of a high-profile internet businessman and those who are suspected of committing the crime. The prime suspects are his former friend/associate and his wife. Both have fairly good reasons as to why they would want to kill him. There is also circumstantial evidence at the scene of the crime that would seem to incriminate at least one of them. Add to this that his friend is not long released from prison for something that the dead man may have committed, along with the fact that the deceased's wife is also the former friend's fiance, and you have enough intrigue and twists to keep you guessing to the end.
I won't give away anything here that may spoil the book for anyone else, but I was guessing almost to the end and the way it turned out was not how I expected. This makes The Big Exit a real page turner. Once I got closer to the end I was hardly able to put it down.
If you are a fan of a good murder mystery then this is for you. If you like reading stories that are hard to predict, then this is for you as well. This book is definitely worth reading and I look forward to reading more books by David Carnoy.
